Without a doubt, it’s one thing to academically study the history of times and people long ago, and another to take yourself back into those times and walk where mighty & historic figures once lived and tread. Had a full, lovely day exploring the Château de Versailles where Napoleon Bonaparte, King Louis XIV, Marie Antoinette and many other historic French figures I studied at school, once lived. From standing in the Hall of Mirrors where the 1919 Treaty of Versailles was signed, to the awe-inspiring artwork on the walls and ceilings, to the majestic palace gardens, I can now understand why the Château de Versailles is one of the most visited historic sites in the world! With almost 10 million visitors every year, it feels good to know that my sister and I were among them this year. But there were so many bodies there we couldn’t wait for more personal space! So heading back to Paris to stroll through its streets, catch highlights like the Notre-Dame Cathedral, and watch the setting sun really made the day a full, unforgettable one.
