  • 21-07-2019 20:37:20 66 likes Over the last three years our Agricultural sector has seen tremendous growth despite the setbacks from climate change. The number of farmers has increased from 230 to 643 farmers. Acreage under cultivation has increased from 1,117 acres to 2,669 acres of cultivation. The number of farmers exporting fruits to the United Kingdom has also increased from 195 to 291 farmers currently. We are also at an advanced stage of the Food Import Substitution Programme which will see increased Government support to increase the local production of cucumbers, lettuce, sweet peppers, cabbages, watermelons, pineapples and cantaloupes. A lot of the success that we have achieved thus far in Agriculture can be attributed to the committed farmers, Ministry of Agriculture Officers and very importantly our friends from Taiwan all working together.🇹🇼🇱🇨

These young ladies performed with such grace and elegance that they received a standing ovation from the audience including our visiting high level delegation from Taiwan. As we continue to make strategic investments in the arts, culture and our youth, the world will soon realize how truly great the people Saint Lucia are🇱🇨
  • 19-07-2019 23:11:07 139 likes We are continuing to bring the vast opportunities of the Internet to every corner of the country, together with our Taiwanese friends. Yesterday, together with Taiwanese President Her Excellency Tsai Ing-wen and her delegation from Taiwan, we launched the 2nd Phase of the GINet Project which aims to help develop a wireless local area network (WLAN) in public areas around Saint Lucia. This will provide residents, tourists and persons conducting business with free and/or low-cost internet access. In the 1st Phase of the GINet, Seventy (70)wireless access points were installed in Castries, Dennery North, Canaries, Micoud North and Vieux Fort South. The communities which will benefit from Phase two (2) of the GINet project are: - Anse-La Raye - Micoud-South - Choiseul - Gros-Islet (including Pigeon Island); - Castries South East and Babonneau. I look forward to our citizens taking advantage of the many educational, entrepreneurial and other opportunities which the provision of FREE Wireless Internet will bring to their communities. Again, I say Thank You to our Taiwanese friends for their support and generosity🇹🇼🇱🇨️

On Monday, when numerous revellers asked me to “Call My Mother for Me”, I got a gut feeling that this would be this year’s Road March. Congratulations to Edwin on becoming the 2019 Saint Lucia Carnival Road March King🇱🇨

During our meeting I took the opportunity to apprise the medical professionals about the ongoing opening of the OK-EU Hospital expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of this year. 5 Departments have since moved from Victoria Hospital into the OK-EU Hospital. The team was also updated on developments at the St Jude Hospital reconstruction project which will commence in the coming days. Work is also continuing for the introduction of National Health Insurance, the upgrading of 17 Health centers throughout the island and ongoing preparation for the construction of the polyclinic in Dennery, health centres in Micoud Village & Anse la Raye as well as the new Soufriere Hospital.

  • 12-07-2019 22:10:52 77 likes On May 23rd of this year, we made donations to 15 well deserving local charities from the proceeds of this year's Prime Minister's Independence Ball. The Cornerstone Humanitarian Society which is a shelter and soup kitchen for the homeless, was the biggest beneficiary of this year's Independence Ball by receiving $250,000EC. Since the donation, work has been ongoing at the shelter to improve the living conditions for the vulnerable in our society who call it home. A comprehensive rehabilitation job has been progressing over the last few weeks which includes painting, tiling, electrical and plumbing among other works. The project will be completed in the coming days. My gratitude to my amazing wife Raquel for all of her efforts as well as to Mr. John Peters for supervising this project for Free and to Mr. Richard Peterkin & Mr. Michael Gordon for serving as trustees of the funds.
